FAQ - Do angels keep the Sabbath?

Q. Do angels keep the Sabbath?

A. Yes. The idea that the angels are somehow exempt from the Sabbath and by proxy God's law, the Ten Commandments, is not true. If it were true the angels would not have any standard to which they were held in heaven. If the angels were not held to God's law in heaven then Lucifer would not have sinned and been kicked out of heaven. Lucifer sinned by transgressing God's law.  This is further evidence that God’s law has existed from all eternity and was not just for the Jews.

"Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law." -1 John 3:4 KJV

God is bound to His own law and also keeps the Sabbath. (Genesis 2:2, Exodus 20:11, Exodus 31:17, Acts 18:4, Hebrews 4:4, Matthew 27:59; 28:1)

Angels still do a "lawful" work (Matthew 12:11, 12) on the Sabbath of ministering to fallen man and protecting them from evil. See also 2 Kings 11:5 "keepers of the watch of the king's house"

"Still the loyal angels urged him [Lucifer] and his sympathizers [angels] to submit to God; and they set before them the inevitable result should they refuse: He who had created them could overthrow their power and signally punish their rebellious daring. No angel could successfully oppose the law of God, which was as sacred as Himself. They warned all to close their ears against Lucifer's deceptive reasoning, and urged him and his followers to seek the presence of God without delay and confess the error of questioning His wisdom and authority." {Patriarchs and Prophets 40.2}
